Scaling up as translation

Two quotes to meditate on, as my dissertation (‘Gained in translation – Exploring the relation between drawing and making in the context of contemporary ceramic practice’) is handed in today:

“I am more interested in the form and in the abstract quality of the drawings than in the subject. …The subject is only subject; all our subjects are the same: anything I say would apply to any of us. So it’s not a mystery. The mystery resides in what you do with it.”
Louise Bourgeois

“I don’t try to find the form through the drawings, I try to find the spirit of the work.”
Eduardo Chillida
